Colne Housing has honoured its longest serving employee. Suzanne Bowden has celebrated 30 years with the Essex-based housing association. She joined in 1988 when she was just 19, working at their former office in Crouch Street, Colchester.
She started as Rent Control Assistant, became an Accounts Manager and now manages the Finance Team. During her 19 years as a Manager only one member of her team has left the company – and that was due to retirement.
Both her children have worked at Colne – Victoria, 22, and Jamie, 19 – have helped out in temporary roles in recent years.
Colne celebrated Suzanne’s milestone with a cake of her office desk complete with icing replicas of her beloved Ipswich Town FC calendar featuring player Martyn Waghorn and ITFC mug. The photo put on Twitter (https://twitter.com/suzbow18) has been viewed 6,000 times.
Financial Services Manager Suzanne, 50, who is now based at Colne’s head office at Digby House, Causton Road, Colchester, said: “I was asked some interesting questions at interview all those years ago such as ‘do you smoke’ and ‘are you prepared to make tea or coffee?.’ How times have changed. I have a fantastic team and do love my job. It is great to be part of the Colne journey.”
Chief Executive Sara Thakkar said: “One of the many amazing things about Colne, is our ability work with great people of all ages. Suzanne is not only our longest serving member of staff, she is incredibly hard working and well-respected. Over the years she has supported us through many changes and embraced the progress we continue to make. Here’s to many more years.”
Suzanne, who lives in West Bergholt, was presented with long-service gifts from Colne’s Chair Hattie Llewelyn-Davies, her line manager Patrick Pedder and Sara Thakkar.
Colne is a 3,000-home housing association which provides a range of housing solutions in Essex and Suffolk to enable independent living.
