Enabling Independent Living
Annual Report 2017 - 2018
At Colne we very much celebrate our long history. We are proud of the people who have come through our doors, not only to create that history and shape who we are today, but critically, the people who remind us why we are here; those who have had their lives changed for the better in the 45 years of Colne’s existence.
We were pleased to launch a new vision in 2016. A vision which enables independent living and actively recognises that we want to face the new decade bigger, better and bolder.
In 2017-2018 we successfully weathered the storm of external and internal challenges. We have been leading the way in the East of England with our approach to health and safety and are early-adopters of some of the recommendations made in Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety.
With our unique joint venture, Iceni Homes, we have continued to build new homes for affordable rent and shared ownership. In the year we provided 88 new properties, housing around 300 residents. The area where we have stock is expanding in Suffolk and on the M11 corridor in Essex.
We recognise there are opportunities to partner with others to build even more homes in future. Our modernisation journey continues, with our customers at the heart. We are becoming more agile and flexible; adopting relevant digital capability to drive service improvements and business decisions.
We use our strong balance sheet, Value for Money approaches, financial performance and good reputation to play our role in tackling the housing crisis in the East of England.
Developing meaningful partnerships is enabling us to do more.
We gave almost £30,000 to support communities in our local area to thrive and tackle social and economic well-being issues.
We will continue to build on our position of trusted partner in the East of England. Working with others who share our values and customer-focus, we have committed to be regional pioneers.
