Are you (or your partner) aged over 55 (60 for some schemes) and retired from work due to age or disability?
Are you retired from your main employment?
Are you looking for a safe, secure and affordable home for life?
If so, sheltered housing might be the answer.
Our sheltered housing waiting list is open to anyone meeting the above criteria, who believes they will benefit from the support and security of sheltered housing with a warden service.
We assess applicants support needs before offering sheltered housing. Contact the Supported Housing team for more information on 01206 244700 or at support@colnehousing.co.uk.
For more information please look at our brochure Affordable Housing Options for Older People. If you want to apply, please complete an Application Form. If you need help filling in this form, please call us on 01206 244700. We'll be happy to help.
This is a question that we are regularly asked, but unfortunately we are unable to give any definite time scales. All of our accommodation is currently full and we have to wait for an existing tenant to vacate before being able to offer a tenancy to someone on our waiting list or registered with the local authority. We have around 50 vacancies a year but we must offer between 50% and 75% to the local authority. This means those registered on our own list may wait some time before being offered housing. This is why it is important to register with the council and as many landlords as possible.
We only have three bungalow schemes especially for older people. They are in very high demand and rarely become available. Therefore, from January 2013 we have closed the waiting lists for these schemes to new applicants who are not already Colne tenants. If you are already registered, you will remain registered on the list and invited to renew your application annually.
We have made this decision because we had lots of applicants and very few vacancies each year. We felt that allowing applicants to continue applying even though they had little or no chance of being offered housing, was unfair. So we will advise on alternative housing options and you can still apply to our blocks of flats instead. Please give us a ring on 01206 244755 if you want to talk further about this.
We often have studio apartments available at short notice in Clacton or at one of the schemes we manage for other landlords in Chelmsford and Witham. Whilst applicants still need to apply for housing in the same way, why not give us a call and see what is available now or very soon on 01206 244755 or email support@colnehousing.co.uk.
Studio apartments are always self contained with their own front door, kitchen and bath or shower room. Whilst they are smaller than our larger flats they are ideal for anyone looking for a low maintenance home. Rents start from as little as £525 to £560 per month including service charges and most utilities. Most charges are eligible for housing benefit.
