Working in Partnership

Opening Ceremony - Haven Road, September 2003. Far left - Chairman, Robert Leng. Left - Rt. Hon. Keith Hill MP, Minister of State for Housing and Planning. Middle - staff and parent - Kiddi Caru Nursery. Right - Chief Executive, Mark Powell Davies.Colne is a community based housing association and we value the strength of the longstanding partnerships we have established with tenants, leaseholders, voluntary, statutory and private sector organisations in order to meet the needs of local neighbourhoods.

We recognise that much of what we have achieved could not have been accomplished unless we had worked with others with skills and expertise in the community.

In all our partnerships we bring:

  • Our expertise in funding, building and managing homes
  • Our consistent and commercial approach
  • Our quick decision making processes
  • Our honest, open and realistic approach
  • Our excellent knowledge of the local scene
  • Our success at attracting multi million pound funding
  • Our expertise in creating and managing mixed sustainable communities
  • Our professional team that will work with our partners

Here is what a few of our partners have said about us:

Colchester Borough Council - Peter Carrington, Community Safety

Co-ordinator CDRP
“Safer neighbourhoods is a key priority for all communities and working with Colne Housing as a partner ensures we can reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in residential areas.  In many cases it is the fear of crime that worries people and through the close relationship Colne has with its residents we can get a positive message out to people ”

Cllr. Robert Davidson, Leader

Colne is one of the area's foremost housing associations and we are pleased to be able to work in partnership to offer more choice in allocating and providing excellent affordable homes.  Colne also has a strategic approach to help solve local housing issues"

Housing Corporation – Val Hammond
“Colne provide a highly satisfactory service to its existing and potential tenants. The Society is strong strategically and the staff are committed and clear about their objectives”

The Essex Autistic Society - Clive Stobbs, Chief Executive
“Those involved in providing accommodation for clients in the voluntary sector rely completely on the expertise and professionalism of organisations like Colne Housing.  The Essex Autistic Society is delighted with the relationship it has with Colne and has resulted in us being able to help even more people ”

Mersea Homes - Stuart Cock

"Building high quality affordable houses is part of the ethos of Mersea Homes and we are delighted to work with Colne Housing.  The Society understands what is required to develop well established neighbourhoods and this clear vision helps us to live up to our own aims"

Persimmon Homes Essex - Paul Gibb, Development Director

"It is important for developers to have a good relationship with housing associations in order to meet our affordable homes allocations.  Colne is the perfect partner because it knows what is required and how to ensure the smooth operation of delivering high quality homes"

Lloyds TSB - Brendan Whitworth, Relationship Director, Public and Community Centre

"As a community based RSL Colne has an established track record in serving the need for affordable housing in North Essex.  We are proud to assist Colne in its aim of delivering even more benefits to the community, by helping fund its development plans"

A few examples of recent partnership projects include:

The CAM Project, formed with Colchester Borough Council, the Housing Corporation, and 3 other Housing Associations is ensuring that residents of new neighbourhoods in North and East Colchester can make a real contribution to the development of the communities they live in.

The Better Lives Project, where we have worked with Uttlesford Primary Care Trust and a number of care providers, has enabled people previously in long stay hospital to live their own home and become full members of their communities.

One of our most exciting partnerships to date is the formation of Iceni Homes, a company that is developing new homes on behalf of ourselves and our partners Cotman and Suffolk Housing Associations.

By combining our expertise, strength and knowledge we are together developing homes throughout the Eastern Region, whilst retaining our individual community base.

Key Communities is the partnership of seven like-minded housing associations who share the same values and ideals.

Why being part of Key Communities is important to us

  • Because together we can create places where people want to live - Key Communities only exists so that the members can grow and build successful, thriving neighbourhoods

  • Because together we are stronger – being in a partnership means we can attract more funds to build the affordable housing needed locally

  • Because together we can think regionally but act locally - all the partners remain independent and accountable to their own Boards and customers but benefit from being part of a bigger partnership that has more influence
