Colne Housing : Our Homes : Supported HousingSupported Housing

The Society has various arrangements in place to assist people who, for one reason or another, may require support to help them live independently. Access to the Society’s supported housing arrangements is through nominations from the local authority, primary care trust or support agencies.

Housing for Tenants with Learning Disabilities

We currently house around 75 people with moderate to severe learning difficulties, Aspergers Syndrome and autism in partnership with the West Essex Primary Care Trust, Social Services and Essex Autistic Society. This tends to be in shared housing where care is provided 24 hours a day by an agency.

We have two small schemes of self-contained, one bedroom flats in Heybridge near Maldon for people with mild learning disabilities who can live independently with low levels of support. Contact Maldon Social Services on 0845 603 7630 to apply.

Temporary Accommodation for Young Parents

In 2007 we opened our first development specially for young parents. In Heybridge near Maldon, it provides temporary accommodation and support to help tenants cope with parenthood and become strong role models and capable parents to their children. Contact Maldon District Council on 01621 854477 to apply.

Other Partnerships

We also work in partnership with a range of other agencies including NACRO (National Association for the Care & Rehabilitation of Offenders), Mencap, SCOPE (supporting people with cerebral palsy), Essex County Council and Acorn Village. If you are interested in knowing more about our partnership work, please contact us on 01206 244700 or email support@colnehousing.co.uk.
