Key Workers sought for Maldon's first shared ownership homes
4th February 2008
Maldon’s first shared ownership homes for key workers will go on sale shortly, offered through one of the region’s leading housing associations.
Colchester-based Colne Housing is now taking reservations from key workers in the Maldon district who may be interested in buying two affordable two-bedroom apartments being built at Quest Place, Maldon High Street.
The affordable homes are part of a larger development on the site which is due to be completed later this spring.
Key workers may include local authority teachers, health service workers, police, fire and ambulance workers and local Government workers. Priority may be given to couples and candidates should live and / or work in the Maldon district.
Each Quest Place apartment has a market value of £180,000. A stake of between 25 per cent and 80 per cent is available. A minimum 25 per cent ownership share for £45,000. Buyers will also pay a monthly rent to Colne Housing of £281.
in future years owners can but additional shares in their home to a maximum of 80 per cent. As the share goes up, the rent paid to Colne goes down.
Colne Housing’s Leasehold Co-ordinator Jennifer Spencer says: “We are very excited about the opportunity this scheme will give to Maldon’s key workers to buy a home of their own”.
“We are aiming these apartments at key workers who may be unable to afford to buy a home on the open market. Maldon does not want to lose its key workers just because they cannot afford to buy a home in the district.
“Although Colne Housing owns and manages more than 2,000 homes across Essex, the Maldon Quest Place development is the first shared ownership scheme we have developed in Maldon.
“We anticipate high levels of interest in the apartments and we are asking people to get in touch with us immediately if they are interested.”

Both two-bedroom apartments have views over the Blackwater estuary.
A £250 reservation is required for each apartment, refundable on completion, and there may be some support from Colne Housing with legal fees.
The project has been developed by Iceni Homes in partnership with Maldon Council and Explore Living.
