First tenants move into new affordable homes in St Osyth

Colne Housing: St Osyth14th April 2008

The first tenants of a new affordable housing project owned by Colne Housing in North East Essex have just taken possession of their purpose built home.

The bungalow is one of 16 new homes in St Osyth built in close partnership between Colne Housing, development company Iceni Homes, the St. Osyth Almshouses Charity (SOAC), St. Osyth Parish Council and Tendring District Council. The land was the site of a dis-used school, transferred from Essex County Council to the St Osyth Almshouse Charity after several years of negotiations.

Chairman of Colne Housing, Bill Frame, was on hand along with the Chairman of the St. Osyth Almshouses Charity, Alan Clinton, to present the keys to the first tenants to move in Mr. Julian and Mrs. Jenny Simmons

Mr Frame said: “This is a superb development and one we at Colne are very proud of as it provides excellent new homes for local people in one of the prettiest towns in the county. It has also been a unique collaboration with a number of organisations who have come together to ensure this scheme was successful and as a result provide much needed affordable homes.”

Five of the new homes will provide housing for local people nominated by the almshouse charity. The remaining eleven homes will go to people on Tendring District Council’s waiting list.

The total cost of the project was £1.76m with the assistance of a grant of £860,000 from the Housing Corporation. The properties will include five specially adapted bungalows for wheelchair users, eight flats and three houses.
