One of Colchester’s largest affordable home developments has kicked off to a great start with the goal of helping Colchester families find quality homes to rent.

The prestigious £4m Heathlands development at Winstree Road, Stanway, was officially opened this week (Monday 28 April) by leading East of England housing association Colne Housing as part of its 35th anniversary celebrations.
Colchester United Captain Karl Duguid was “on the bench” on site alongside Colne Housing Chairman Bill Frame for the official launch.

They dedicated a new garden bench for Heathlands residents’ use, sporting Karl Duguid’s name on an engraved plaque, which will be placed in the gardens behind Colne Housing’s homes on Radwald Chase.

Working with partners including Colchester Council, development company Iceni Homes and builders Persimmon Homes, Colne Housing’s scheme at Heathlands provides a wide range of affordable homes in a new community.

Opening the eight one-bedroom flats, ten two-bedroom flats, thirteen three-bedroom houses and nine four-bedroom houses in a top residential area Colne Chairman Bill Frame said: “Heathlands is the pride of Colne Housing.

“Like Karl’s leadership of Colchester United Football Club, Heathlands is set to become a true favourite with everyone.

The development is already proving a hit with a wide range of families which is not surprising considering the quality of the scheme and the wide green open spaces.

The Heathlands development has been the latest opportunity for families wanting an affordable home to rent in a market that is otherwise out of their reach.”

Colne Housing Chief Executive Mark Powell Davies said: “Heathlands is another in Colne Housing’s proud tradition of providing flexible and innovative affordable homes for families.

The launch of the Heathlands development shows what can be achieved by working closely with all of our partners to bring responsive housing solutions which are attractive and popular with families.”

The U’s Captain, Karl Duguid also led a training master class with Stanway School students as part of the Heathlands site launch programme.
