Colne gets down to business

Bill Frame, Mark Powell-Davis30th March 2008

Affordable homes provider Colne Housing is launching an ambitious new five year plan which sets the pace for north Essex’s social housing programme.

The Colchester-based Housing Society will provide over 500 new homes over the period, and invest at least £1.2 million each year until 2013 in its own stock as part of its response to the Government-led drive to significantly increase the number of affordable homes.

Within the next five years Colne Housing pledges to own or manage over 2500 affordable homes for people in housing need in the local community.

Colne Housing – which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year – is also considering land banking and building homes for sale in order to make the most of the number of development opportunities in the region.

Colne Housing already owns and manages over 2,000 affordable homes across Essex including Maldon, Colchester and Clacton.

The business plan spells out how it will boost this number to provide another 100-150 new homes each year.

Chief Executive Mark Powell Davies said; “Colne is already ahead of the game in the Government-led drive to enhance and improve the range of support and guidance provided to smaller local housing associations and other partners.

“This is already happening on the ground and it is absolutely in line with our wish to extend our expertise and to be a partner of choice to voluntary, statutory and private sector organisations.

“Colne is proud to be setting the pace in increasing the range of support and professional expertise which is able to provide to other smaller housing associations and voluntary sector organisations.”

Added Mark Powell Davies: “Colne will be working actively with its partners in the community to make sure that its residents have access to the full range of services.

“Our residents are our number one priority, and our aim is to provide the best quality, most efficient and effective customer focused housing management and maintenance service."
