Colne welcomes affordable housing figures for the East of England

October 2007

One of the region’s largest housing associations, Colne Housing, has welcomed the latest news that the number of affordable homes in the East of England looks set to more than double. The announcement was made by The East of England Regional Assembly (EERA).

Chief Executive of Colchester based Colne Housing, Mark Powell Davies, said: “This is extremely good news as we are currently very short of affordable housing in Colchester and the rest of the region. We are pleased that the affordable homes announcement from EERA includes those for rent or part-purchase.”

He continued: “We understand the obligations on us and other housing associations to provide housing at less cost per home and we are lucky at Colne to be financially strong and to be working with Iceni Homes, our development company to ensure we keep costs down thus enabling us to provide more high quality properties for people.”

Colne Housing will bid to secure more affordable homes for Colchester, mid and north Essex. The announcement from EERA will see the numbers of affordable homes grow in the region from approximately 4,000 in 2005/6 to 9,000 a year by 2011.
