Top Colchester United goal scorer Kevin Lisbie took a break from training to mark the opening of a new landmark apartment block of affordable homes within striking distance of the U’s award-winning Weston Homes Stadium.
The new apartments on a prominent north Colchester site known as Cuckoo Point are part of a larger mixed development area which borders both the Colchester Business Park and the community stadium. The scheme will eventually include business, retail and commercial units as well as other family homes.
The apartments have been developed for Colchester based Colne Housing by its partner company Iceni Homes. Families from Colchester Council’s Choice Based Lettings programme have been offered the opportunity to move into the homes, all of which will be for rent at affordable rates.
Chief Executive of Colne, Mark Powell Davies, said: “Cuckoo Point is another example of the superb quality affordable homes being built by us in Colchester. We are committed to providing innovative, high quality accommodation in highly-desirable locations across Colchester and north Essex.”
Cuckoo Point includes 15 one-bedroom apartments and six two-bedroom apartments. It offers modern design homes in a wooded environment which has good links to the A12, the Business Park and public transport to the town centre.
