The CAM Project

The Community Action in Mile End (CAM) project was set up in June 2006.  For the final year of the project, June 2008 to May 2009, funding was provided jointly from Colchester Borough Council, Colne Housing Society, Estuary Housing Association, Places for People, Suffolk Heritage Housing Association and Myland Parish Council.

CAM employed one Community Development Officer whose job was to engage with, support and encourage communities to get involved in the extensive regeneration work taking place in the Mile End area of Colchester.

CAM helped to achieve some great things for the new community at Mile End, including an arts and music workshop for the local children, a community garden and secured funding for a new play area and youth worker.

Sadly, the Community Action in Mile End project, headed by Jo Wheatley, came to an end on Thursday 21st May 2009, due to the funding from the lottery and local authority grant funding becoming extinct.

Jo's achievement in the area were significant, including successful projects in street dance, graffiti work shops, bike rides, arts and crafts day, basketball, the installation of a playground and many many more life changing and enhancing projects.
