Apply for Home Transfer or Mutual Exchange
If your home no longer suits your needs and you wish to move, you may apply for a transfer within the Society or a mutual exchange with a tenant of another housing association or your local council.
We have our own Mutual Exchange Register, or you can advertise your property in the local council’s Mutual Exchange Register. Mutual exchanges are often a quicker way to move. When you have found a suitable exchange, you and the other tenant(s) will need to fill out an application form from both landlords.

If you would like further information or you would like us to send you a Transfer Application form or a Mutual Exchange Registration form, please e-mail customerservices@colnehousing.co.uk, our Customer Services Team or telephone 01206 244700. You may also wish to visit the Available Homes web site to look at properties in different areas or visit www.homeswapper.co.uk.
You will not be able to do a mutual exchange if:
- The property you wish to move to is too big or too small for you, according to our guidelines
- There are court orders against you or the other tenant
- You or the other tenant live in tied accommodation such as a caretaker or Retirement Scheme Officer home
- Either home has been designed or adapted for someone with a disability and one of the tenants does not need these facilities
- Either home has been built for a specific age group and one of the tenants does not fulfil this criteria
- You are in rent arrears
- You are living in temporary accommodation and/or have an assured shorthold tenancy
It is against the law to give or receive money for an exchange.
